Topic: InstantStorm 2.0 Release Candidate

Hi InstantStorm users,
we're publishing a release candidate version of InstantStorm 2.0. Now you're allowed to freely redistribute all screensavers made using this version. Please don't stop testing, though, we'll appreciate all bug reports. The release candidate's functionality has been 'frozen', the only thing concerning functionality that will change in the final release will be the availability of a help file and additional languages. And yeah, the final version will ship with an installer just like 1.5.3, don't worry. smile

Here are some major improvements over 1.5.3 that are definitely worth checking out:
• A completely revamped screensaver core with highly improved overall speed and stability + better Vista and Windows 7 support
• A brand new screensaver settings designer that allows you to add tons of fancy check boxes and options without having to worry about making basic settings in the settings dialog Flash file
• A new 'preview center' that makes screensaver preview act like it has been already compiled and installed
• Transparency support, InstantStorm can now render a defined color as transparent which allows you to make super awesome screensavers where the users can see parts of their desktop
• A new Files tab in InstantStorm's main window allows you to access a new interface for choosing different base Flash movies for different screen aspect ratios as well as the little preview box in Windows screensaver properties
• Now you can also publish screensavers without installers, the new screensaver engine is capable of compiling standalone SCR files that you can easily integrate in your custom corporate installers
• Customizable version information for the screensaver installer—since a couple users asked us to support this in future releases
• RTF and PDF file support for screensaver readme
• Support for language packs—with language packs you can now store all your custom installer and settings dialog texts in external files for further usage, for some non-Latin languages a character encoding selector is available as well
• Full drag & drop support all over the program interface
• Full Flash CS4 (Flash Player 10) support
• Various new FSCommands for geeks (a list will be provided as soon as possible)
• Thousands of bug fixes + improved stability and speed of InstantStorm interface

I created a screensaver 02.scr, but it can not runs. It show me a message box when I test or configure this screensaver:

Application Error
Exception EConvertError in module 02.scr at 00008866 '' is not a valid integer value.

Hi!
I've tested it on Win XP simplified chinese and it works. Please download the RC2 again, create new folder and unpack it there. Make sure you've deleted the previous beta and RC versions.

Hey guys,
after playing with this a bit, i do get an error.

System: Windows XP SP3
Error: When i go to Preview -> Screensaver it worked fine the first time. After trying another screensaver it gave me an error that said "InstantStorm - Critical Error: Unexpected Compiler Error". Tried closing and restarting the application but still get the error. Any ideas?

Hello!
Thank you for this bug report. The screensaver didn't quit properly and InstantStorm was not able to re-compile it, that's why it gave you Compiler errors.
I'm going to fix it smile

Nice guys, working great. My roaches are much happier running across a real desktop, their little antennae were just quivering with excitement.

I tried previewing different screen savers but couldn't recreate the problem David had. My OS is the same. Should I hold off on releasing mine until a fix comes out or is it a rare problem?

Elconaut: Can't wait to see those new roaches! Anyway, the problem David had involved just previewing the saver in InstantStorm interface, the screensaver itself must have been working great. There's nothing that keeps the roaches from being released. big_smile

Hi Elconaut,
this bug is just in the InstantStorm screensaver preview, not it the 'live' screensaver. It's not critical and does not affect screensaver behavior. You don't have to wait smile

Final InstantStorm will just have it's own installer and it'll be translated in various languages. And help will be available too. These are the only differences between final and RC.

Hi, I opened previoslu saved project (.is) file on this new version. I opened Advanced and tried to go to Settings dialog designer, I got an error message saying that image file I previosly selected can't be found (which is true, because I moved the whole folder...)

Error text in whole:

Run-time error '76':
Path not found 'C:\Documents and Settings\something\something\jabadaba.bmp'

Then after i press "OK" button the program just quits/crashes.

First of all - absolutely awesome project! Great done!

In new 2.0 I'm still missing list of available FSCommands. Especially, possibility to stop and close screensaver. Version 2.0 till now working perfect.

hey, I downloaded and installed this software, when I try to run it an error message pops up and says "Critical error. Please reinstall InstantStorm." I of course did this but I still get the same message. I looked through the boards for the answer and found the 2.0 patch. I installed the patch and tryed again and got the same message. I don't know what to do.

OS: Windows Vista, BASIC edition.

Do you have Adobe Flash Player ActiveX component installed?
Please install InstantStorm 1.5.3 first, then use 2.0RC2, it should help smile
